Security Through Safe Design Inc. (STSD Inc.) is proud to offer both a Basic Level 1 and an Advanced Level 2 CPTED Course for 2010.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is based on the premise that "the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and incidence of crime, and to an improvement in quality of life." CPTED strategies are ideal for Police Officers, City Planners, City Managers, City Council Members, Architects, Educators, Transit Authority, Security Personnel, Property Managers, Corporate Security or anyone involved in designing, managing or securing neighborhoods, schools, downtown, or buildings. It is an effective way to fight crime and increase safety and security, all the while promoting healthy business.
Implementing CPTED principles reduces the opportunity for crime to occur, which has a direct correlation to decreased maintenance costs and risk of civil liability. Not only does it reduce loss and expense, it increases revenue generation from legitimate users.
The main fundamentals of CPTED include: Natural Access Control, Natural Surveillance and Territorial Reinforcement.
The Basic Level 1 course will incorporate these fundamentals in various disciplines and provide the participants with an in-depth knowledge of how they can utilize these principles in their work environments. Participants will take part in various class group assignments and benefit from hands-on exercises. Each participant will be given a professionally printed workbook containing digital ‘before’ and ‘after’ examples of CPTED strategies. All information covered during the course will be included in the workbook.
The Advanced Level 2 course takes the principles learned in Level 1 and utilizes them in a variety of specific applications and environments. The course will incorporate specialized applications for CPTED principles and will focus on CPTED in schools, CPTED in parking, CPTED in banks and CPTED in interior design. Participants will take part in class group assignments, as well as, conduct a thorough in-field interior and exterior CPTED audit.
Our professional team of facilitators are considered experts in this field and have implemented CPTED strategies in the design and retrofit of many environments which include; health care facilities, public transit, residential communities, industrial parks, schools, retail industry, parks and many municipal buildings. Our team has also trained numerous professionals across Canada and the United States, including, hundreds of police officers.

Course Registration Fee:
Ottawa - The registration costs for participants who register before July 1, 2010 is $577.50 (which includes 5% GST). The combined registration costs is $997.50. For participants who register on July 1, 2010 or later, all course prices will include the applicable Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) of 13%, which increases the course cost to $621.50 for one course or $1073.50 for a combined registration.

There will be a limited number of seats available for all courses. To reserve your seat on a course, send a completed registration form with payment to the Ottawa Head Office of Security Through Safe Design Inc. No position will be held without having received full payment.
